Carlton Pride

As son of iconic country music legend, Charley Pride, Carlton began life in the music industry. Eventually becoming a recording & sound engineer for his father and various other artists, Carlton left Dallas in 1995 to make his home in San Marcos, TX and realize his first reggae project: One.

In 1996 the band became Zion and began playing the local circuit, touring the U.S. and skyrocketing to headline the Bob Marley Festival from 1996 to 2003.

In 2000, the band traveled to Jamaica to record the What You Need album with Ruff Stuff records at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston. Produced by Clive Hunt (Alpha Blondy, Peter Tosh, Culture) and featuring Marley’s horn section, along with appearances from the Bunny Wailer, Culture, Burning Spear, and Alpha Blondy bands.

An emotional guest appearance by Charley Pride featuring a father/son duet of Charley’s No. 1 hit single: Kiss An Angel Good Morning, with reggae back beat is an instant classic.

Carlton has shared the stage with artists such as The Wailers, Black Uhuru, Yellowman, Culture, and The String Cheese Incident. Carlton Pride and Mighty Zion were the first reggae act to grace the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

Carlton’s show is an upbeat form of blues, funk and roots reggae that keeps a crowd on their feet and dancing from beginning to end.
